First Time

I am a strong believer that we need to have mentors in our life that give us guidance especially on first time situations. Recently, I was placed in a situation that I had never experienced before and frankly I wasn’t sure how to react, respond etc.. I was angry and hurt and I now what my flesh was telling me do. Yet one thing I have learned about myself is not to respond right away when I am feeling certain emotions. The first action I took was to call a Mentor of mine and describe the situation and then I did the hardest thing – I listened. My mentor gave me insight on the situation and changed my perspective on the situation. Come to find out my mentor had dealt with something similar a few years back. I then took a few days to chew on his advice and then entered back into the situation and delivered my perspective.

We all need a mentor who can look at situations from an outside lens. I want to encourage you to find one. In fact in my latest book “The Bench” the character Huey is a representation of the mentors I have in my life. The wisdom that Huey passes on is from the wisdom I have gained from the mentors in my life. Having a mentor is priceless and will save you from making many poor choices.
