Does it Work?

I have been asked over the years ; Does it work? This is in regards to the first principle I discuss in my book. Speak it! So first we need to understand that just because you speak it doesn’t mean it is going to happen right away or even happen how you want it to. Let me give you an example:

Back in 2007 when the economy hit the bottom I found myself suddenly laid off as the company silently went bankrupt. At first I wasn’t too concerned, however after about six months of looking for a new position with nothing concrete I started to get concerned. The bills had not stop coming in. Now during that time I kept telling my self: ” I am going to find an awesome job right away.” Well right away meant 18 months later. Yes 18 months! That is a long time to go without work. During that time I applied to over 200 positions and I wasn’t getting anything back. I met with recruiters, resume builders and all in between to see if I was doing something wrong. They all told me everything look great. I had the education, experience and performance track record. As things became financially worse I kept telling myself “I am going to find an awesome job right away.” Finally towards the end of those 18 months I received a call from a recruiter out of California who came across my resume. Eventually we talked and he got me an interview with a company. I ended up securing that position and it was better than I could have thought. The company is awesome and still to this day it is the only phone call I got back.

It reminded me that everything happens in the proper timing ( Gods timing) not my timing. I learned many lessons during those 18 months that I treasure today.  The right position was out there and when I thought things were not happening there were a ton of things happening that I could not see. That is why we need to keep speaking what we want even when we don’t see it.
